International Experience for Improving the Quality of Vocational Education and Training

Sharing international professional experience, enhancing teachers’ qualifications, and strengthening practice-oriented learning are the key areas in which LEPL College “Mermisi” continues its cooperation with the German organization Senior Expert Service (SES).

From 21 September to 9 October 2026, Mr. Thomas Goerke, a German expert invited under the SES programme, completed his third visit to College “Mermisi.” The cooperation is carried out with the involvement of the German Business Association (DWV) and aims to strengthen the College institutionally and improve the quality of vocational education and training.

During the visit, particular attention was paid to the professional development of teachers from the Restaurant Service and Hotel Service vocational education programmes. The expert conducted training sessions on service standards, table setting, reservation procedures, housekeeping, safety, and guest services. Mr. Thomas Goerke also attended masterclasses delivered by teachers from the Culinary Arts and Confectionery vocational education programmes. The exchange of experience supported the sharing of practical teaching approaches and the mutual enrichment of professional knowledge.

At the end of the visit, a restaurant service simulation was organized, involving teachers and students from the Restaurant Service, Culinary Arts, and Confectionery programmes. The simulation highlighted the importance of coordinated teamwork across different professions in the hospitality sector — from kitchen and confectionery operations to direct guest service. The students had the opportunity to apply their professional knowledge and skills in a realistic working environment, helping prepare them for the demands of the workplace.

Cooperation with the SES expert creates additional opportunities to enhance teachers’ qualifications, improve teaching and assessment methods, and strengthen practice-oriented learning.
